Who created it and why?
The Great Wall of China was the idea of Emperor Qin Shi Huang (c. 259-210 B.C.) in the third century B.C. He had conquered surrounding areas and united them, he destroyed some walls between the areas and ordered other walls extended. The Wall was built so Emperors could protect their borders. They were well guarded and used as a barrier when there were battles near the borders. It was also built to help stop bandit tribes crossing the border. |
